Ahead of the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal tie on Wednesday at Signal Iduna Park, Borussia Dortmund might be entering the contest with an injury to a key defender.

Both teams want to be as healthy as possible, considering they’re 180 minutes away from reaching the final at Wembley Stadium. Nonetheless, the German side might have to navigate without Ian Maatsen.

According to FussballTransfers, the Dortmund left-back is doubtful for the first leg due to a muscle problem. Still, the report doesn’t say that the 22-year-old will be out for the entire tie. As a result, if he does miss the first encounter, he could be back for the return leg at the Parc des Princes.

Maatsen has played in 33 matches across all competitions for the Bundesliga team, scoring two goals and registering two assists. It will be interesting to see how Dortmund navigates this potential loss as whoever plays the left-back side will have to account for Ousmane Dembélé.
